The annual report of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) was launched last week at Stormont.

Les Allamby, Chief Commissioner of the NIHRC, said: “Today is the launch of our annual statement on human rights. It’s a snapshot of where we have got to in terms of human rights in 1917.

The guest speaker at the event was Labour MP Harriet Harman who is also the chair of the Joint Committee on Human Rights at Westminster.

VIEW editot Brian Pelan asked Ms Harman for her views on the decision of Belfast City Council to remove park benches in the city which were used by rough sleepers.

“You don’t solve homelessness by removing park benches,” Ms Harman said.
