What would you like to change about your community?

That’s the question being asked by The People’s Accelerator Programme, a free programme focused on developing ideas for social change and innovation in communities across Northern Ireland.

The programme, which is seeking new participants for 2019 from across Northern Ireland, offers a wide range of support for anyone aged 18 and over to develop their idea for social change through workshops, mentoring, networking and finally pitching to potential funders and partners.

Michael Conlon, Head of NI Programmes for the Young Foundation said: “Northern Ireland is facing a wide range of social issues at the moment – including our mental health crisis, a lack of funding in education and the arts and the roll-out of Universal Credit – all of which are having detrimental impacts on local communities.

“The New Year often means a time for change for many people and the People’s Accelerator Programme is here to celebrate and support enterprising members of the community who want to make a change in their lives and the lives of those around them.  All you need is a strong basic idea, lots of energy and drive and we can help with the rest!”

We have organised two Community Powered Change sessions in Derry and Belfast. These taster sessions will explain the support that Amplify NI offers to people and groups looking to create social change in their community.

The taster session will take place in Belfast on Tuesday 5th February in the daytime from 12pm-1pm and and in the evening from 6pm-7pm in Ormeau Baths, 18 Ormeau Avenue. You can RSVP here.

The taster session in Derry will take place on Wednesday 6th Februaryin the daytime from 12pm-1pm and in the evening from 6pm-7pm in the Holywell Trust, 10-14 Bishop Street. You can RSVP here.

The People’s Accelerator Programme has been running in Northern Ireland since 2016 and has helped 35 projects so far to bring their ideas to life. The kinds of projects which have been developed so far explore social change through mental health, gaming, personal development, children in care and the environment.
