Winner: VIEW editor Brian Pelan

VIEW editor Brian Pelan and VIEWdigital co-founder Una Murphy attended yesterday’s Participatory Budgeting Works Imagine Democracy Celebration event at the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast.

They joined other winners who successfully pitched at an Imagine Democracy event earlier this year – which was part of the Imagine Belfast Festival.

VIEW editor Brian Pelan, who secured £500 to help organise a VIEWdigital ‘Engaged Journalism’ event at the Belfast campus of the Ulster University, said he was delighted to take part in yesterday’s event at the Crescent Arts Centre.

“Our event at Ulster University give participants a chance to voice ideas on what type of social affairs subjects that VIEW magazine should cover in the future.”

“We were also delighted to hear the thoughts of the two guest speakers, Dr Jennifer Jones from Scotland and investigative journalist Barry McCaffrey.”

Paul Braithwaite from Community Foundation for Northern Ireland and Louise O’Kane from Community Places helped to organise the celebration event at the Crescent Arts Centre.

Winners included Terry McKeown from the Sailortown Regeneration Group; Karin Eyben, Garvagh People’s Forest Campaign; Maghera Park Action Group; Here NI, Collaboration for Change and PB in Schools.

Roslyn Fuller, a Canadian-Irish author, academic and columnist, also spoke at the event.
