Residents in west Belfast have vowed to continue their campaign to stop a community green space being turned into a new sports facility.

The Friends of Glassmullin Open Green residents group in Andersonstown held an ‘Open Day’ on the green yesterday.

The residents were involved in a stand-off with contractors last week as work was due to begin at the green space.

They have been campaigning against the construction plan to build a 3G pitch, car park and pavilion in the area for the past six years.

Friends of Glassmullin Green have said that if contractors make a return to the area, they will be there to ”oppose them”.
